What Is Rift Sawn White Oak?

  • Rift sawn white oak is a premium cut of hardwood known for its straight, consistent grain and clean, modern appearance. Unlike plain sawn lumber, rift sawn boards are cut at a specific angle to produce a more uniform grain pattern with minimal variation, making them a favorite for contemporary homes and high-end woodworking.
  • In addition to its distinctive look, rift sawn white oak is more dimensionally stable, meaning it's less likely to twist or warp as humidity changes. The result is a durable, long-lasting stair tread with a refined appearance that highlights the natural beauty of white oak without the bold cathedral grain found in standard cuts.

Notes:

  • Our stair treads are constructed from solid wood staves bonded together for strength and stability. This tread construction is the industry standard, offering significantly greater durability and resistance to warping compared to one-piece treads.
  • Treads are not reversible and are meant to be used with the top side visible. Bottom (non-visible when installed) side of treads may contain slight cosmetic imperfections.
