California Proposition 65
California's Proposition 65, formally known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires businesses to provide warnings to California consumers regarding significant exposures to chemicals identified by the State of California as causing cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
JMP Wood Inc. sells a wide variety of wood products, stair parts, railing components, hardware, adhesives, tools and related products. Depending upon the product, its materials and its reasonably foreseeable use, certain products may require a California Proposition 65 warning.
For some products, exposure may occur during installation, fabrication or modification, including activities such as cutting, drilling, sawing, sanding, grinding or machining. Other products may contain materials, coatings, finishes, adhesives or other components that are subject to Proposition 65 warning requirements.
JMP Wood evaluates its products and information provided by its manufacturers and suppliers to determine when a Proposition 65 warning is appropriate. Where JMP determines that a warning is required, the applicable warning will be provided on or in connection with the product and, where the product is offered for sale online, on the applicable product page or otherwise before completion of the purchase.
The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean that a product is unsafe or that it violates any product safety standard. Proposition 65 is a California right to know law intended to provide consumers with information concerning potential exposures to chemicals identified by the State of California.
Customers should always follow the manufacturer's instructions and use appropriate safety precautions when cutting, drilling, sanding, grinding, machining, installing or otherwise modifying a product.
